La. woman sentenced for theft of $1.6M
Federal prosecutors say a 71-year-old woman has been sentenced in federal court to two years in prison for stealing about $1.6 million from the construction company she worked for.
Faye Laurent of Prairieville was sentenced Thursday by U.S. District Judge James J. Brady.
Laurent was ordered to pay $1 million in restitution.
Prosecutors say Laurent pleaded guilty to stealing about $1.6 million over a six-year period from the Deville Construction Co. of Baton Rouge, where she worked as bookkeeper.
They say she got money and property from the company by forging checks drawn on the company account and used company checks to pay for the construction of her home in Prairieville.
