HOUSTON - Agents with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries have assisted in more than 1,400 Harvey-related rescues.

During a press conference Thursday, Governor John Bel Edwards announced that agents with department help volunteers and local first responders rescue 1,401 people after Harvey caused severe flooding in Texas and Louisiana. More than 1,300 of those rescue occurred in Texas.

The 40 agents from the department were dispatched to Texas this week shortly after Harvey made landfall, bringing catastrophic flooding to Houston and its surrounding areas.
