La. Rep. wants political calls added to "Do Not Call" list
NEW ORLEANS - State Rep. Cameron Henry announced Wednesday his legislation to amend the Telephone Solicitation Relief Act of 2001, better known as the "Do Not Call" listing of telephone subscribers who want to avoid telephone solicitations, to include political calls or robocalls.
The legislation, House Bill 151, has been assigned to the House Commerce Committee and will be scheduled for hearing after the start of the Regular Session which begins on March 12.
Henry said he filed the legislation after being contacted by constituents who asked that the calls be included in the Act.
"These calls are offensive to some citizens and they should have the prerogative to have them blocked from their telephone. This legislation will require those making robocalls on behalf of a political campaign to obtain copies of the
"Do Not Call" listing and remove numbers on the list from any calls they make."
