LAFAYETTE - A Lafayette Police Department spokesman says investigators don't believe there are links between their investigation of a missing female college student and a case in Bloomington, Ind.
Cpl. Paul Mouton told The Associated Press that police aren't releasing the details that make them believe the disappearance of Michaela "Mickey" Shunick's on May 19 is unrelated to that of Indiana University student Lauren Spierer, who disappeared in June 2011.
He said Bloomington police contacted Lafayette detectives about Speirer's disappearance because of similarities in the cases. Both women are white with long, blonde hair. Speirer was 20 years old and Shunick, a University of Louisiana-Lafayette student, was 21.
Shunick's bicycle was found on Sunday in a swampy area 25 miles from Lafayette, but Mouton says police didn't find other significant evidence there.
