AMITE, La. - A Hammond man sought in a double shooting in Tangipahoa Parish has been arrested in Huntsville, Ala., the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office says.

Deputies tell The Advocate that Brandon Francois, 18, was taken into custody Wednesday night on second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder charges in the shootings. The shootings happened on Monday.

Larry Smith, 21, of Hammond, died from a gunshot wound to the head. An unidentified 24-year-old man was critically wounded and is hospitalized in Baton Rouge, deputies say.

Francois was arrested with help from the U.S. marshals and the Huntsville Police Department.
