Although part of the Louisiana employment job picture closely mirrors the stumbling national economy, the state's manufacturing and petroleum sectors are sharply lagging.
That's according to a comparison of state and national job figures.
In similarity to the national economy, Louisiana is adding post-meltdown jobs in the largest numbers in a handful of sectors such as health care and education services, professional and business services and leisure-hospitality.
But Louisiana manufacturing has not shown a sign of a tentative national comeback - and has lost over 21,000 jobs in the past two years. And the petroleum sector is unchanged over a year - going against the national grain - and lost 500 jobs from June to July.
