A state district judge has acquitted a state hospital worker accused of restraining a brain-injury patient without authorization in 2009.
Linda Thompson was originally charged with cruelty to the infirmed, but District Attorney Kathryn
Jones amended the charge to simple battery before the trial of the Villa Feliciana Medical Complex employee began.
Jones said she reduced the charge because of the weight of the evidence, but District Judge William G. Carmichael rendered a not guilty verdict after hearing testimony from five witnesses,
Thompson denied using restraints on the man and denied telling another employee that she had restrained the patient.
