La. graduation rates lag, even among non-poor
NEW ORLEANS- Louisiana's high school graduation rate has improved markedly over the years, but at around 72 percent it remains among the nation's lowest.
A report released Monday shows Louisiana is one of seven states where a low graduation rate is a problem even among households that aren't poor.
The report is based on federal Education Department statistics. The national rate for 2012 was 80 percent.
For Louisiana students who are not from low-income families, the rate is 78 percent.
For low-income students, the rate is 66 percent.
