LA gets performance bonus from federal government
The number of children enrolled in the Louisiana Medicaid program is up.Now Louisiana is receiving a performance bonus from the federal government.
State health officials say they were given notice of the $3.5 million dollar bonus today. Louisiana is one of 15 states receiving this type of award.
It's part of President Obama's goal to get more eligible children enrolled.
State Medicaid Director Don Gregory says it's good to be recognized for hard work. He says it's too early to determine how the money will be used given the state's budget crunch.
Gregory says efforts have been made to streamline the medicaid application process in recent years. That includes making face to face appointments unnecessary.
