BATON ROUGE - A team of five Louisiana emergency managers, including the head of the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, have been deployed to New York to assist officials there in responding to Hurricane Sandy.

In addition, two GOHSEP staffers who had been working in Pennsylvania travelled to New Jersey on Nov. 3 to offer their assistance as well.

The Louisiana team, including GOHSEP Director Kevin Davis and emergency managers form Calcasieu and St. Tammany parishes, left Tuesday for the East Coast. Davis says the trip is a chance for the state to share its experience in disaster response with communities that offered similar help to Louisiana following Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Gustav.

The Atlantic hurricane season runs until Nov. 30.
