LA airport shooting suspect to appear in court
RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif.- A man charged with a deadly rampage at Los Angeles International Airport last month that left a Transportation Security Administration officer dead and three others injured will make his first court appearance.
Paul Ciancia (see-AHN'-see-uh) will have his first hearing at a San Bernardino County jail facility where he's being housed in federal custody. The Wednesday morning hearing will be routine and Ciancia will not be asked to enter a plea.
Investigators said Ciancia targeted TSA officers when he pulled a semi-automatic rifle from a bag and fatally shot Gerardo Hernandez on Nov. 1.
Ciancia was shot and wounded by airport police in LAX's Terminal 3 as passengers scrambled to safety. He was initially listed in critical condition but was upgraded to fair at a Los Angeles hospital before being placed in federal custody.
