Krewes get ready for Southdowns, Spanish Town
BATON ROUGE - It's Carnival time in Baton Rouge.
The Krewe of Southdowns parade rolls through Baton Rouge tonight at 7 p.m., while Spanish Town's parade rolls Saturday at noon.
Southdowns members began setting up their party supplies early Friday, putting the finish touches on floats and firing up their grills and kitchens to cook up plenty of Mardi Gras food. Organizers had to change the traditional route of their parade this year, starting from Glasgow Middle School because of the demolition at Lee High.
In Baton Rouge's historic Spanish Town district, the krewe's iconic pink flamingos are already out in force. Residents were also decorating their homes and trees with purple, green, and gold.
Rob Krieger will have more on parade preparations tonight starting on WBRZ News 2 at 4. For more information about the parades, including maps for the parade routes, visit our Mardi Gras page.
