Key nuke officers "burned out"
WASHINGTON- The trouble inside the nuclear missile units in the Air Force runs deeper and wider than the Pentagon has let on.
The Associated Press obtained a study done for the Air Force that found "burnout" among launch officers.
They have their fingers on the triggers of 450 nuclear ICBM's.
The study also shows other behavior issues, including suicide, sexual assault and domestic violence.
It adds to a picture of the decline of a once proud arm of the Air Force.
The study was done by RAND and says the court-martial rates in the nuclear missile force is twice that of other units and administrative punishments are also higher.
