Kenner woman killed in head on crash on I-10 crash in Port Allen
PORT ALLEN - A Kenner woman was killed Friday morning in a two vehicle crash on I-10 East at LA 415 near the Lobdell exit.
State Police reported the woman killed in the wreck was 66-year-old Yvonne Gooch. The accident happened shortly after 8 a.m.
Troopers say their investigation indicates 56-year-old Antonio Zapata of New Orleans was traveling eastbound on I-10 in an SUV when he blew a tires as he crossed the LA 415 overpass.
Zapata lost control of the vehicle, crossed the median into westbound lanes of travel and slammed into a sedan piloted by Gooch.
Though she was wearing a seat belt, she died from injuries sustained during the crash. Zapata, also properly restrained, survived though he suffered minor injuries. Minor injuries were also reported among the six passengers riding in the SUV.
State Police say impairment is not suspect in the crash, but toxicology samples will be taken from both drivers to be submitted to the LSP Crime Lab for further analysis.
After his release from the hospital, Zapata was booked into the West Baton Rouge Parish Jail on charges of negligent homicide, careless operation, child restraint violations and no insurance.
