Kayakers take on mighty Mississippi River

Update: Video attached.

For the past three months, two men kayaked more than 2,300 miles on the Mississippi River, to film what they call the first adventure themed documentary on the river.

Ryan Jeanes and his partner Phillip Hullquist started their journey in Minnesota and have ten days left before they reach the mouth of the Mississippi River.

"You meet all kinds of people, all different types of people unified by the same river," Jeanes said.

The men are documenting their entire trip on a high definition camera.  In the evenings, they either pitch a tent or stay with people along the river who welcome them into their homes.

"The hardest part is steering clear of barges," Jeanes said. "They don't throw off a lot of wake, but if you hit one you can see the size of our boats we're not going to fare well against a barge."

Once finished with their river trip, the men said it will take them approximately eight months to finish editing the film.

I had the pleasure of meeting these two gentlemen as they made a stop in Donaldsonville, Louisiana to purchase some supplies for their continuing journey. They answered all the question's I asked about their journey on the mighty Mississippi and they even allowed me to take some picture's of them. They were very down to earth, very nice guy's and I'd like to wish them a very safe trip to their next destination and hope to speak with them again soon. I would like to say that you both, Ryan and Phillip made a great impression on those of us that got to meet you and we truly enjoyed the visit with you, you both have done an outstanding job. Thank you again for taking the time to talk with us. Have a safe trip home.

    Sincerely,
    Janet Kocke
