Jury selection begins in former BP engineer trial
NEW ORLEANS - Jury selection has begun in the trial against a former BP engineer charged with deleting texts and voicemails about the response to the 2010 oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
Kurt Mix has been charged with two counts of obstruction of justice by the U.S. Justice Department.
Prosecutors say he deliberately deleted text messages to and from a supervisor to hinder an investigation of the spill.
Mix is one of four current or former BP employees charged with crimes related to the oil spill, the worst in American history.
His case is the first to be heard.
Dozens of potential jurors were in federal court in New Orleans today for the start of the trial.
