Jury selected for Port Allen police chief trial
BATON ROUGE - The 12 jurors and four alternates who will deliver a verdict in the former Port Allen Police Chief's trial have finally been selected Thursday afternoon after almost two days of debating.
Fred Smith is accused of violating the Rico act, mail fraud, wire fraud and racketeering in connection with the FBI's undercover Cifer 5000 garbage can cleaning company.
At 4:45 p.m. Judge Brian Jackson dissmessed the remaining 52 potential jurors after determining that they could not reach an impartial decision.
The jury will be made up of seven males and five females. Opening statements will begin tomorrow morning.
