Jury delivers guilty verdict in gas station murder
PORT ALLEN - A jury found Marcus Richardson guilty of second-degree murder Thursday in the shooting death of a Brusly High School student in 2012.
Jurors were given the case just before noon and deliberated nearly three hours before reaching their verdict.
Richardson was accused of killing 18-year-old Justin Warner on May 13, 2012. Deputies said Richardson started shooting after an argument at a gas station on LA 1 escalated into a fight, and killed Warner.
On Wednesday, jurors watched a video tape of Richardson's interrogation and confession to the shooting. Defense attorneys claimed the shooting was in self-defense, and therefore justified.
Richardson faces an automatic life sentence for the murder. The judge will set a hearing date to issue a formal sentence.
