NEW ORLEANS - Jurors returned a guilty verdict against former New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin Wednesday in his federal corruption trial.

The jury made the announcement after just over six hours of deliberation, according to WDSU in New Orleans.

Nagin faced a 21-count indictment and was found guilty of 20. The jury returned a "not guilty" verdict for one charge of bribery.

Prosecutors said he took hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes from people doing business with the city. Defense attorneys argued the case was built on lies and the testimony of businessman who made plea deals for lighter sentences.

Sentencing has been set for June 11. The judge ordered Nagin into home detention until he could be sentenced.
