Judge won't disqualify herself over hiring issue
BATON ROUGE - Legal bickering between a Baton Rouge federal judge and an attorney who wants her off his case could continue in an appeals court.
The News 2 Investigative Unit reported last week that Judge Shelley Dick hired the wife of U.S Attorney Walt Green, raising eyebrows in some legal circles.
A Metairie attorney started legal maneuvering Thursday asking that Dick remove herself from his criminal trial because Judge Dick did not disclose that her clerk, Kathy Krupa Green, was married to the U.S. Attorney.
That prompted the U.S. Attorney Walt Green to fire back saying there's nothing wrong with his wife's hiring since she doesn't work on any of the government's cases.
Judge Dick agreed with the government, saying she will oversee the trial. The judge then essentially scolded the defense attorney, writing in a court document that "not only is this sort of disclosure not required, but it could present a very serious security threat to chambers employees."
