Judge's son faces arraignment in drug theft
BATON ROUGE - Three people accused of stealing items from the 19th Judicial Clerk of Court's Office will appear before a judge Thursday for arraignment.
One of the defendants, William Colvin, is the son of State District Judge Kay Bates.
He's accused, along with his girlfriend Debra Bell, of stealing cocaine and weapons from an evidence locker in Dec. 2012. Both are former courthouse employees.
According to a warrant, Colvin spent as much as $50,000 of the drug money on jewelry for Bell and purchased a $20,000 car.
