BATON ROUGE - On Tuesday, U.S. District Court Judge Brian Jackson ruled the buyout of 47 homes near a Baton Rouge sewage treatment plant "fair and reasonable".

An environmentalist group's lawsuit against the buyout has stopped the plant's expansion until now.

Plans for expansion have been ongoing for more than a decade.

Residents say the plant's odor has ruined their quality of life.

The city-parish has set $6 million aside for the buyout.

There's no announcement about when residents would be expected to move out if there are no more obstacles in the way of the expansion.
