Judge Retires after Rape Arrest
A judge in New Mexico arrested for rape will retire rather than face a disciplinary hearing and agreed not to seek a judicial office again. Judge Pat Murdoch will retire on Friday after the state Supreme Court accepted an agreement hashed out between Murdoch and the Judicial Standards Commission. Murdoch was the chief judge in New Mexico's busiest court in Santa Fe. The woman who accused him of rape is an admitted prostitute and says she met with the judge eight times. Police are also investigating if she may have tried to extort money from Murdoch with video of a sexual encounter.
