NEW ORLEANS - A federal judge has refused to postpone a sentencing hearing for a retired New Orleans police officer who was convicted of burning the body of a man who was shot by police in Hurricane Katrina's aftermath.

Gregory McRae is scheduled to be sentenced on March 31 by U.S. District Judge Lance Africk.

McRae's attorney, Frank DeSalvo, asked for more time to review a presentence report, but Africk rejected that request on Monday.

The judge said DeSalvo needs to provide a better explanation for why he needs more time.

In December, a jury convicted McRae of burning the body of 31-year-old Henry Glover in a car after he was shot by an officer, David Warren, outside a strip mall less than a week after the
August 2005 storm.
