Judge: LSU must release candidates' names
BATON ROUGE - A judge ruled today that LSU must release the names of candidates who were considered for the newly-formed president's position.
F. King Alexander, from California, was selected from a pool of candidates, but his was the only name released. Journalists sued when LSU refused to release the names of others who were interested in the position, which oversees the campus in Baton Rouge and the entire LSU System.
In court documents, Judge Janice Clark found the list is "indeed public records in accordance with the Louisiana Public Records Act." Judge Clark also said there was no valid exemption for the system not to release the names.
LSU had said it was not going to release the names out of respect for the candidates and their current employment.
When asked for a comment Thursday, LSU forwarded questions to its lawyer who has not returned calls.
