Judge disqualifies White Castle Mayor from race
White Castle Mayor Maurice Brown was disqualified Friday morning in a Plaquemine courtroom from next year's mayoral election.
Brown owes the Board of Ethics $3,000 because of a conflict of interest. In October 2009, the Board fined Brown because he fueled town cars at a gas station at which he also worked. He never paid the fine but signed paperwork June 7, 2010 swearing he did not have any outstanding fines.
"There's no law that says you have a timetable to pay the Board of Ethics their money," Brown told News 2.
Brown plans to pay the money but would not say when.
Brown's attorney, Bruce Craft, said he will take the weekend to decide if he will appeal the decision.
