Judge declares mistrial in inmate's trial
A judge has declared a mistrial in the trial of a Louisiana State Penitentiary inmate, accused of killing a security officer in 1999.
Jeffery Cameron Clark is one of five prisoners, known as the "Angola Five," charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing and beating death of David Knapps during an attempted escape.
The state is seeking the death penalty against all five inmates accused of killing Knapps.
Defense attorneys objected to the prosecutor's opening statements to the jury, after claiming the defense is trying for "another life sentence" rather than the death penalty for Clark.
Clark is currently serving a life sentence for an unrelated 1984 murder.
