Juban Crossing grand opening October 15
DENHAM SPRINGS - The Juban Crossing development is just two weeks away from its grand opening after years of delays.
Belk is set to open October 15 with three other stores opening the last week in October. Several more stores in phase one will open in November.
Wednesday contractors worked in the rain to prepare the site for shoppers in Livingston Parish. Parish leaders like Council Chairman Ricky Goff say it's an opportunity for parish residents to stay close to home.
"It's going to be real good for everyone, especially along the Black Friday aspect to spend their dollars in Livingston Parish and to be able to give back to the parish and not have to go across the Amite River Bridge," he said.
Goff expects Juban Crossing to compete with other retail shopping centers in the Capital Region while providing residents jobs in Livingston Parish.
"Livingston Parish is very strong. We have a lot of our people that go out of our parish to work," said Goff. "A lot of those people will be able to stay here and work, but they also go out of our parish to shop whether it's in Hammond or Baton Rouge. That's not going to happen now."
This week the Louisiana Workforce Commission held a Juban Crossing job center for TJ Maxx. Residents say it's great to be able to search for jobs in the area instead of having to commute to other cities.
"I'm really excited because I've been looking for work after my son was born," said Bobbie Guitreau. "So it's close to home that way I don't have to travel far so it's really exciting for me."
Bed Bath & Beyond will hold a job fair on October 23 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the La Quinta Hotel, located at 13450 Vera McGowan in Walker.
Academy Sports has a walk-in hiring center open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the Broadway Place shopping center in Denham Springs, located at 7755 Magnolia Beach Road, Suite L.
