LIVINGSTON - Residents in Livingston Parish will have to wait at least another year before the Juban Crossing shopping center is complete.
More than half-a-million cubic yards of dirt have been moved since ground was first broken on the site nearly two years ago. Now nearly 95 percent of that work is finished, which means buildings could start going up in the near future.
Crews have been busy building ponds, drainage ditches and laying water and sewer lines. When complete, developer Steven Keller said it will look similar to Baton Rouge's Towne Center at Cedar Lodge.
Keller said the slow economy played a part in what took Juban Crossing so long to get underway.
"While we are not immune to the realities of the marketplace, we are working with retailers to establish a timeline that fits their plans for growth and a seamless construction site," he said in a statement emailed to News 2.
There's no word on exactly which stores or restaurants are on board to move in. Developers plan to have more information on who shoppers can expect to see by the end of the month.
