JPSO: Man killed after pointing gun at police
HARVEY - A Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office deputy shot and killed a man following a domestic dispute, according to the sheriff's office.
The incident occurred in the 3000 block of Destrehan Avenue in Harvey.
According to the JPSO, the male suspect confronted an ex-girlfriend and another man at a nearby grocery store. The couple and the man exchanged words, and the man pointed a handgun at the couple before leaving the store.
Deputies went to the suspect's home on Destrehan Avenue.
"As they were approaching the front door, the suspect exited the front door, saw the officers, (and) pointed a semi-automatic handgun at the officers. One of the officers said he squeezed the trigger on the weapon," said Col. John Fortunato. One deputy then pulled his weapon and fired a single shot, hitting the man.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the JPSO.
