Johnson scores 28, University Lab beats Wossman for 3A title
LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - Jalen Johnson scored 28 points and University Lab quelled the upset hopes of Wossman in a 98-65 victory on Saturday night for its third consecutive LHSAA Class 3A championship.
Johnson, a senior, earned most outstanding player honors after shooting 9 of 12 from the field, 4 of 5 from behind the 3-point line, and blocking five shots. LSU signee Wade Sims added 26 points and 12 rebounds for the Cubs, and Marshall Graves broke the Class 3A Tournament record for assists with 13.
The Wildcats (25-9) couldn't keep up with U-High offensively, as the Cubs shot 63.8 percent from the field and 7 of 11 from beyond the arc. They also converted on 31 of their 34 free-throw attempts, and broke the division tournament record for assists with 27.
Casey Jones Jr. led Wossman with 31 points, four assists and three steals.
