First-time claims for unemployment benefits dropped 14.6 percent in Louisiana last week.

The Louisiana Workforce Commission reports 3,989 initial claims, that's down from the previous week's total of 4,661.

This is well below the 5,448 recorded for the comparable week ending April 18 of last year.
