BATON ROUGE- Two projects supported by Governor Bobby Jindal could speed up plans for a bypass between Livingston and Ascension parishes.
The first involves $2 million for the widening of LA 42 from Airline Highway to LA 44.
Earl Rish manages a nursery along that stretch of highway, and says 42 is dangerous and needs to be improved. Rish says the state has told the business to plan for work to start early next year.
The governor also supports money for widening the I-12 overpass in Walker. Jindal backs $300 thousand for improvements to LA 447 near that site. Traffic funnels down to two lanes over the interstate during rush hour. Drivers say it can take nearly an hour to pass through the area.
Drivers often use 16 to 42 as a bypass around traffic and construction in Baton Rouge. Long range plans, including the addition of a toll bridge in Port Vincent, are currently being ironed out. The projects still need approval from the Louisiana Bond Commission.
