Though downgraded to a depression, Bonnie has stirred those along Louisiana's coast to declare
emergencies and begin the tedious preparation involved when tropical storm-force wind and rain are predicted to come ashore.
Gov. Bobby Jindal joined Plaquemines Parish President Billy Nungesser at a news conference Friday to urge residents to "get a game plan" before the unpredictable weather strikes the state's coast on Saturday.
Jindal says several parishes have declared emergencies and notes that Plaquemines and Lafourche are calling for voluntary evacuations of low-lying areas. Nungesser says a shelter in the parish's north end will likely open Saturday because some residents - mostly the elderly - fear being cut off from medical help when roads in the area are swallowed by water.
