BATON ROUGE- Governor Bobby Jindal joined the Louisiana Republican Party in saying Rep. Vance McAllister should resign amid the kissing scandal.

"Congressman McAllister's behavior is an embarrassment and he should resign," the governor said Thursday.

McAllister said a day earlier, he was not expecting to be in Washington, D.C. anytime soon. Instead, he was going to be with his family.

On Monday, a video surfaced showing McAllister in an emotional embrace with a woman who was not his wife. The kiss happened at McAllister's district office in Monroe. Hours after the video was posted on the Internet, McAllister asked for forgiveness and privacy.

"He says he wants privacy to work on his issues with his family. The best way to get privacy and work on putting his family back together is to resign from Congress," Jindal said.

Thursday, the head of the Louisiana Republican Party also called for McAllister's resignation. But, the party never answered an email about why the position on McAllister differs from the position it took concerning U.S. Senator David Vitter.

Rodney Alexander, the man who left the 5th Congressional seat, leading to McAllister winning the election, said he would run for the seat again if people needed him. But Alexander, who now works for the governor's administration, said he is not considering a run at the moment.

Since Alexander resigned, McAllister was elected to finish his term. He'll have to campaign for a full term in an election this fall.
