BATON ROUGE - Governor Bobby Jindal says it was an honor to support Texas Governor Rick Perry in his bid for the GOP presidential nomination.
Perry dropped out of the race this morning.
Lagging in the polls, Perry said he concluded there was no "viable path forward" for him in the race.
Perry then gave his endorsement to Newt Gingrich.
Jindal endorsed Perry early in the campaign.
In a written statement Jindal says "Rick is a close friend and great Governor. Governor Perry and the people of Texas are good neighbors. They came to the aid of Louisiana during the dark days of Hurricane Gustav, and we are proud to call them friends. Rick ran a hard fought race and I was honored to support him. I spoke to Rick this morning and I wished him and his wonderful wife Anita all the best and look forward to visiting with them soon."
Jindal has not indicated if he will endorse another candidate for the Republican presidential nomination.
