Jindal encourages Hornets attendance
BATON ROUGE - Gov. Bobby Jindal is urging Louisiana residents to "pack the arena" for the upcoming New Orleans Hornets home games, in an effort to boost attendance figures and keep the team in the state.
The NBA is proceeding with a plan to buy the Hornets from its owners after negotiations to sell the team had stalled.
If Hornets attendance reaches certain benchmarks, the team's lease would obligate it to stay in New Orleans through 2014. That would give the Jindal administration more time to work with the NBA to find a permanent owner for the franchise.
The two-year average attendance figures will be computed after 14 more home games this season. The Hornets can break the lease early if average attendance falls below a certain mark.
Jindal asked fans Tuesday to buy more tickets and "show the NBA we support our team."
