BATON ROUGE - Governor Bobby Jindal said he wants people to set aside time on Sept. 14 to pray for law enforcement members across Louisiana.

Jindal proclaimed that day as a statewide day of prayer, and encouraged people to thank law officers for their work.

"Too often, we forget the sacrifice and commitment these brave men and women make on a daily basis in order to protect our families and uphold the peace in our communities," Jindal said. "Our officers understand the real risk and responsibility that comes with this career and we are extremely grateful for their dedicated service."

The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund reported last week that Louisiana has had more job-related police deaths in 2015 than any other state except Texas. That comes after Louisiana State Trooper Steven Vincent was shot and killed in Calcasieu Parish after stopping to help a stranded motorist, and Sunset Police Officer Heny Nelson was shot and killed with his own gun while trying to stop a suspect in a trio of stabbings.

Governor Jindal will host a prayer rally on the steps of the State Capitol Monday morning at 11 a.m.
