BATON ROUGE - Gov. Bobby Jindal has called on the executive director of the Louisiana Association of Educators to resign.

At issue is a dispute between Jindal and the education union over the governor's bid to allow children in poor-performing schools to attend private schools with state tax dollars.

Jindal says comments made by Michael Walker Jones, the LAE's executive director, were offensive to parents.

The governor said Thursday that Jones should leave his post for saying that parents in poverty "have no clue" what the right education choice for their children is because they don't have all the facts about public school financing problems.

The LAE defended the statement and says Jones isn't leaving his post. Union leaders say Jindal is attacking anyone who opposes his proposals.
