Gov. Bobby Jindal says he's glad his former executive counsel has canceled a no-bid legal services
contract with the Louisiana Tax Commission.
Jindal said Monday he wasn't aware that the law firm of Jimmy Faircloth had entered into the January contract to provide legal consulting for the state agency, worth up to $20,000. Faircloth
left his job as Jindal's executive counsel in July.
Faircloth says he's canceled the contract and reimbursed the money earned from the work after concerns were raised it may appear improper or could have violated state ethics laws. Faircloth says
he didn't believe the work was prohibited by ethics laws.
Jindal says it was best for Faircloth to cancel the contract and return the money. The governor says Faircloth shouldn't have entered into the contract.
