Jefferson Parish to burn Isaac debris this week
MARRERO - Jefferson Parish plans to burn branches, trees and stumps hauled off after Hurricane Isaac from three west bank towns Thursday and Friday in a Marrero park.
If a controlled burn is not possible Thursday, the burning will start when the weather allows.
FEMA approved debris removal at about 48 homes in the Lafitte, Barataria and Crown Point areas. That work is nearly complete, with about 750 cubic yards of woody debris collected.
The parish chipped and used all other vegetative debris from Isaac. But officials say controlled burning makes more sense this time because of the small amount of wood and the long distance from permitted disposal sites.
