Jefferson deputies find missing 9-year-old girl
RIVER RIDGE - Jefferson Parish sheriff's deputies say a 9-year-old River Ridge girl who was reported missing late Sunday actually spent the night sleeping in the safety of a friend's house.
Deputies said the girl's grandmother, who reported Jamainia Larnett missing, was confused and under the influence of drugs or alcohol. They say she forgot she dropped the girl off Sunday night at a friend's house.
Col. John N. Fortunato says Jamainia was located around 8 a.m. Monday.
Jamainia's grandmother, Tammy Smith, initially told deputies the girl disappeared around 7:30 p.m. Sunday from her truck. Smith said she searched the area but wasn't able to find her and by 9:40 p.m. she called deputies.
During questioning Monday morning, Fortunato said Smith remembered dropping the girl off at a friend's house in River Ridge.
