The city of Jeanerette is getting a federal loan for nearly $2.5 million to improve its water system.
The money is among nearly $117 million in stimulus grants and loans for water and environmental projects announced Tuesday by U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack.
The grants and loans are a are part of the USDA Rural Development's Water and Environmental Program, which provides money to ensure necessary investments to provide safe drinking water and protect
the environment in rural areas.
