Jairus Byrd returns to Saints practice
METAIRIE - Jairus Byrd made his much-anticipated return to full contact on the practice field for the New Orleans Saints Tuesday: now the Saints prize free agent pickup is trying to get back up to speed.
"It felt good to finally get that contact out the way and just get back in the swing of things," Byrd said after practice. "Adjusting to this heat out here is new."
Byrd had back surgery during the summer and while he was able to participate in individual drills, he had not been able to have full contact until doctors cleared him.
Byrd said he took every precaution to make sure he came back at full strength for the season.
"Like I've said all along they wanted to make sure and take it slow, and they cleared me to go so I'm just working my way back, getting used to everything, still going out there getting the contact in, doing things I need to do to make sure I'm ready by week one and this game (Indianapolis) and moving forward."
