Jaguars look for 6th straight win in final home game
BATON ROUGE - The Southern Jaguars (6-1, 7-3) close out their slate of home games tonight against Mississippi Valley State (1-7, 2-8) in Mumford Stadium.
The game kicks off at 6 p.m.
If SU pulls out the win today, next week's match up against Grambling at the Bayou Classic will determine who represents the west in the SWAC championship game.
The Jaguars are riding a 5 game win streak and are in second place in the SWAC west. The Delta Devil's loan SWAC win came against Jackson State more than a month ago.
QB Austin Howard was 15 for 25 in pass attempts last week for 177 yards and rushed for 1 TD. Lenard Tillery, Tyre Bracken and Reginald Redding also found the end zone on the ground.
MVSU is coming off a 38-23 loss to Grambling. The Delta Devils started the game going up 14-0 before Grambling scored 28 unanswered points. MVSU is led by QB Quantavius Peterson who went 17 for 23 with 138 yards and 1 TD last week, but was sacked 9 times.
