Investigators: man arrested for writing fraudulent insurance quotes
SORRENTO- An insurance quote for the town's police force was fraudulent and the man who wrote it was arrested, according to an arrest warrant obtained by WBRZ News 2 Friday.
Henry Beard, Jr. faces acts prohibited charges. Investigators said he kept doing insurance work, illegally, after he lost his license in 2009. The State Police Insurance Fraud Unit started investigating Beard after a business owner complained about their working relationship.
Investigators said Beard met with the Sorrento Police Department assistant chief and discussed an insurance proposal after the department lost its coverage last year. The assistant chief said Beard, working through Beard Insurance and Financials, submitted a quote and even attended a council meeting to discuss it.
Sorrento remains without insurance and a full police force since last year. The chief resigned amid a sex scandal and a guilty plea of lying to the FBI about a sexual assault lawsuit. The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office has been patrolling the town.
