Investigation underway for shooting involving an off-duty police officer
LABADIEVILLE - State police are investigating an incident where a suspect opened fire at an off-duty officer in Assumption parish early Saturday morning.
Investigators say the suspect tried to burglarize a home that belonged to a Thibodaux police officer around 3 a.m. Authorities say the officer was at home at the time of the burglary and was shot at when he tried to seize the suspect. Police say the officer then returned fire causing the suspect to flee in a getaway car heading south on LA 1 from the Labadieville area.
The off-duty officer was not injured during the incident and it is unclear at this time if the suspect or driver was injured.
State police ask anyone with information on the incident or saw a suspicious vehicle traveling south on LA 1 or LA 308 from the Labadieville area early this morning to call police.
