Authorities in Ascension Parish continue to investigate the death of a Prarieville woman over the weekend.

Deputies say 26 year-old Melissa Barrilleaux died after possibly being the victim of a hit and run.

They say Barrilleaux was found in the road by a motorist. Seconds later, an oncoming motorist ran over her legs.

Barrilleaux was taken to the hospital, where she died.

Authorities say Barrilleaux was heavily intoxicated at the time.

An autopsy has been ordered by the coroner's office in order to determine the exact cause of death.
