Investigation: appeal filed in case over man never serving sentence
GONZALES- Prosecutors filed an appeal after they lost a hearing to have a man serve time for a crime he was convicted of nearly twenty years ago.
Stanley White never served a sentence for killing an eleven-week-old in a crash. A mistake in the justice system has been blamed for White remaining free all this time.
In early May, a judge decided White did not have to serve time now.
The Attorney General's Office, who has taken over the case, also entered new evidence into the appeal hearing. In court documents obtained by WBRZ News 2, prosecutors said White may have lived out-of-state at times after the crash, disputing what White's attorneys said in court that he never tried to hide.
