Interstates, bridges close due to ice
BATON ROUGE - Mardi Gras across south Louisiana is turning out to be a cold weather event as freezing temperatures caused problems for drivers Tuesday morning.
More than a dozen accidents were reported in East Baton Rouge Parish because of icy conditions. Interstates were shut down around Lafayette and Baton Rouge until temperatures rose above freezing mid-afternoon Tuesday.
DOTD said their crews are out de-icing bridges and roadways, and closing any areas they deem to be unsafe. They urged drivers to stay off the roads when possible.
Drivers can call 511 for the latest road conditions and closures, while out-of-state travellers can call 1-888-762-3511. You can also watch live traffic conditions on WBRZ's Traffic Center.
